Our Mission
The world of consumer technology moves fast — too fast. Every week there's a new smart home device, a new pair of AI earbuds, a new mechanical keyboard claiming to be "the one." But separating genuine innovation from marketing hype has never been harder. That's where we come in.
Our mission is simple: help people make smarter buying decisions through honest, rigorous testing. We believe everyone deserves to know what they're actually getting before they click "buy." Whether you're outfitting your first smart home, upgrading your WFH setup, or looking for the perfect ergonomic chair, we want you to feel confident that your money is well spent.
We don't just summarize specs. We don't rewrite press releases. Every product we recommend has been purchased with our own money, tested over days or weeks in real-world conditions, and compared against its strongest competitors in the same price bracket. If a product isn't worth your money, we'll tell you — plainly and honestly.
At the same time, we're committed to making our reviews accessible to everyone. We avoid jargon when plain English will do. We explain the features that actually matter. We tell you exactly what trade-offs you're making at each price point. Whether you're a seasoned tech enthusiast or buying your first smart thermostat, you'll find the information you need in language you can understand.
Who We Are
Reviews by Technologies IA is run by a small, independent team based in Ontario, Canada. Our backgrounds span software engineering, industrial design, journalism, and consumer electronics — and we bring the full breadth of that experience to every review we publish.
We're not a faceless content farm. Every review on this site has a real person behind it — someone who actually unpacked the product, set it up, configured it, lived with it, and wrote honestly about the experience. Our writers have built smart homes from scratch, programmed custom keymaps for a dozen mechanical keyboards, tested robot vacuums on every flooring surface imaginable, and spent countless hours evaluating ergonomic chairs during real 40-hour work weeks.
We're also readers ourselves. When we buy a product, we read reviews first. We know how frustrating it is to find a glowing review that turns out to be paid content, or a comparison that conveniently ignores the elephant in the room. That frustration is what drives us to do better.
We aren't owned by a media conglomerate. We don't answer to advertisers. Our only obligation is to our readers. Every review we publish reflects the honest opinion of the person who tested the product — nothing more, nothing less.
What We Cover
We focus on six product categories — the categories we're most passionate about and where we believe honest, detailed testing makes the biggest difference to buying decisions.
12 products reviewed
18 products reviewed
8 products reviewed
22 products reviewed
15 products reviewed
9 products reviewed
Why these six? Because they represent the categories where the gap between marketing claims and real-world performance is widest. A security camera's "AI detection" might mean something very different on the box versus in your living room. A robot vacuum's "mapping" might work beautifully on a showroom floor but fail on your dark-coloured rug. An ergonomic chair might look adjustable but lack the lumbar support your back actually needs. These are the details that matter, and they're the details we test for.
We're not a general-purpose review site. You won't find smartphone reviews, laptop comparisons, or kitchen appliance roundups here — not because those categories don't matter, but because there are already plenty of excellent resources for them. We'd rather be great at six categories than mediocre at sixty.
Our Testing Philosophy
Our testing process is built on three principles: independence, transparency, and real-world use.
Independence means we buy every product we review with our own money. We don't accept review units from manufacturers. We don't let brands influence our testing methodology, our scoring, or our publishing timeline. If a manufacturer sends us a product unsolicited, we either return it unopened or donate it to a local charity — we never use it as the basis for a review.
Transparency means we tell you exactly how we tested, what metrics we used, and what our limitations were. Did we only test on hardwood floors but not carpet? We'll tell you. Did the firmware update mid-way through testing and change the performance? We'll tell you. Was there a specific feature we couldn't verify because we lacked the equipment? We'll tell you. We publish our testing methodology alongside every review so you can judge the evidence for yourself.
Real-world use means we don't run a product through a lab and call it a day. We install the security camera on our own home. We use the mechanical keyboard as our daily driver for two weeks. We let the robot vacuum navigate our actual living rooms — chairs, cables, pet bowls, and all. We sit in the office chair for a full work week before we render a verdict. The result is reviews that reflect what you'll actually experience when you bring the product home.
Every product is tested for a minimum of two weeks — longer for more complex products like robot vacuums and security camera systems. We take detailed notes during the testing period and often revisit our initial impressions after the novelty wears off. First impressions can be misleading; we want to know how a product holds up after the excitement fades.
Why Trust Us
Trust is the foundation of everything we do. We know that every time you visit our site, you're choosing to spend your time and attention with us — and we take that responsibility seriously. Here's what sets us apart:
- No paid reviews. We have never accepted payment in exchange for coverage. A positive review cannot be bought. A negative review cannot be suppressed. Every rating on this site reflects our genuine, independent assessment.
- We buy products ourselves. We purchase every product at retail price, from the same stores you shop at. This ensures our experience matches yours — no cherry-picked pre-production units, no manufacturer-optimized test samples.
- We don't accept sponsorships. Our site is funded entirely through affiliate commissions and our own resources. No brand has ever paid us to be mentioned, linked, or featured. If a product appears on our site, it's because we chose to test it and honestly believed our readers would benefit from the review.
- Editorial independence. Our affiliate partners — including Amazon and other retailers — have no input into our content, our ratings, or our recommendations. They see our reviews at the same time you do: when they go live.
- Corrections and updates. If we make a mistake, we correct it promptly and transparently. If a product's performance changes after a firmware update or a new revision, we update our review to reflect it. Every review includes a "last updated" date so you know the information is current.
We're not perfect, and we don't claim to be. But we are honest, independent, and relentlessly focused on one goal: helping you make the best buying decision for your needs and your budget.
